Dear SOAP Members, 

In this SOAP Update we celebrate our membership, the work that our community does to advance research, education and best practices in obstetric anesthesia care.  

Our committees are working hard to prepare for the Annual Meeting which will be hosted in Portland, Oregon from April 30^th-May 4^th, 2025.   In addition, our Fundraising Subcommittee is busily planning a themed charitable event to remember, which promises to be an evening of fun, socializing and philanthropy. 

As always, there is a lot happening at SOAP with our incredibly engaged committees, subcommittees, task forces, and SIGs. Some of our latest activities are described in this message, and you can find more on soap.org.

BOARD STATS 

• To date, there are 51 SOAP State Representatives, and we continue to work towards securing a representative from each state.  SOAP State Representatives will provide a key contact in each state to help us reach a broader audience, as SOAP strives to meet its mission to provide safe and equitable care for women and newborns everywhere. If you know someone who is interested in becoming a SOAP State Representative, please contact SOAP HQ.

COMMITTEE STATS 

Annual Meeting and Live Events Committee 

• The 2024 Annual Virtual Highlights was held June 10 & 11. Registrants for the Annual Meeting in Denver and Virtual Highlights can access the recordings in the SOAP Learning Center 
• Registrants for the Virtual Highlights have until Dec. 31, 2024 to earn CME by filling out the evaluations. 

• Future Meetings: 
• The 2025 Annual Meeting will be held April 30 – May 4, 2025, in Portland, Oregon. 
• 2025 Annual Meeting theme: Leveraging Technology for Better Outcomes: Improving Lives of Patients & Clinicians. 
• Call for presentations has closed. The AMLE Curricular Subcommittee is reviewing the 16 proposals.

Education Committee

•  Fellows Webinar was held Oct 9 at 3:00pm Eastern hosted by Dr. Jamie Daly and Dr. Emily Naoum, featuring Dr. Allison Mitchell
• COPUS Webinar was held Oct. 22 at 5:00pm Eastern moderated by Dr. Naida Cole featuring Dr. Cedar Fowler: How POCUS and FAST Exams can Influence our Understanding of What is Happening during Shift Change.

Diversity Committee 

• Diversity & Inclusivity Award 2024 winner: Cesar Padilla, MD – Stanford University
• Diversity & Inclusivity Mentored Grants winners: Anusha Reddy, MD & Chantal Pyram-Vincent, MD, MPH – Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, & Claudia Sotillo, MD & Pervez Sultan, MBChC, FRCA, MD, Stanford University

Governance Committee 

• Fred Hehre Lecturer for the 2025 Annual Meeting is Medge Owen.
• 2026 Ostheimer Lecturer is David Monks

Intersociety Committee  

• The SOAP Speaks! database has launched! 21 access forms have been completed and 25 speakers have applied to date. View the database to access vetted SOAP members who are enthusiastic to share their expertise and passion on a variety of topics.
• COE Applications for the 2024 cohort closed October 15. The COE Subcommittee is reviewing applications.
• Informational webinar is posted on the COE Website

Member Value Committee 

• Membership campaign renewal and recruitment launched October 1.
• Renew your membership NOW and get the rest of 2024 with your 2025 membership!
• SOAP Fundamentals was held September 14 & 21.
• Registrants can view the recordings here
• Register for the Fall Forum: November 13 & 14. 
• Mentoring Academy Mentor/Mentee Program – Mentor/Mentee pairs have been notified.
• Join one of the fifteen Special Interest Groups. To see a full list of the Special Interest Groups visit the SOAP website.  

Research Committee  

• Research Network Symposium was held at the W hotel Philadelphia during ASA on Sunday, October 20 from 10am – 1pm.

• Fall Research Survey Requests has closed. The Research Committee is currently reviewing requests and notifying submitters.

• Combined net assets for SOAP and the SOAP Endowment were $5.9M as of June 30, 2024.
