Happy Holiday Season!   The SOAP family wishes you and yours a wonderful year end!

As the year draws to a close, we wanted to update you on the amazing efforts our members and society have undertaken toward improving care for pregnant persons and babies everywhere.  

We hope you enjoy this update and don’t forget you can still donate the SOAP endowment fund online for the 2024 tax year.   Your charitable contribution makes it possible for SOAP to fund program development and research that make a difference in the field of obstetric anesthesiology.

BOARD STATS 
  • To date, there are 51 SOAP State Representatives, and we continue to work towards securing a representative from each state.  SOAP State Representatives will provide a key contact in each state to help us reach a broader audience, as SOAP strives to meet its mission to provide safe and equitable care for women and newborns everywhere. If you know someone who is interested in becoming a SOAP State Representative, please contact SOAP HQ.  
COMMITTEE STATS 

Annual Meeting and Live Events Committee 

  • The 2025 Annual Meeting will be held April 30 – May 4, 2025, in Portland, Oregon.
    • Registration Open!
    • 2025 Annual Meeting Virtual Highlights will be held June 9 & 10, 2025.
    • 2025 Annual Meeting theme: Leveraging Technology for Better Outcomes: Improving Lives of Patients & Clinicians
    • Call for presentations has closed. The AMLE Curricular Subcommittee has notified all applicants regarding their submissions.
    • Abstract submissions open Jan. 2
  • The 2024 Annual Virtual Highlights was held June 10 & 11. Registrants for the Annual Meeting in Denver and Virtual Highlights can access the recordings in the SOAP Learning Center.
    • Registrants for the Virtual Highlights have until Dec. 31, 2024 to claim their CME.

Education Committee

  • Teacher of the Year nominations have opened. Deadline: January 2, 2025
  • COPUS Webinar will be held Jan. 15th @ 5PM Eastern. Dr. Cole and Dr. Dean will moderate the session. Dr. Levine & Dr. Nieb will present: Cardiac Point of Care Ultrasound in the Management of a Parturient with a Thymoma.

  • Fred Hehre Lecturer for the 2025 Annual Meeting is Medge Owen.
  • 2026 Ostheimer Lecturer is David Monks

Intersociety Committee  

  • The SOAP Speaks! database has launched! 17 access forms have been completed and 25 speakers have applied to date. View the database to access vetted SOAP members who are enthusiastic to share their expertise and passion on a variety of topics.
  • COE Applications for the 2024 cohort closed October 15. The COE Subcommittee is reviewing applications.
    • Informational webinar is posted on the COE Website

  • SOAP Abstract Reviewer Interest Form closed Dec. 3
  • Journal Club Classic was held Dec. 11 @ 3pm Eastern. Hosted by Dr. Naida Cole & Dr. Leziga Obiyo ft. Dr. John Sullivan: Effect of Intrathecal Bupivacaine Dose on the Success of External Cephalic Version for Breech Presentation: A Prospective, Randomized, Blinded Clinical Trial.
Finance Committee 
  • Combined net assets for SOAP and the SOAP Endowment were $6M as of September 30, 2024.
