ACGME Fellowship Application

For several years now, the SOAP Board has reaffirmed the decision to pursue Accreditation Council on Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) accreditation of training in Obstetric Anesthesiology. The rationale for this decision is outlined in the document “Recommendation for ACGME Accreditation of Obstetric Anesthesiology”. It is important to note that with this application we are asking the ACGME to accredit and insure uniform training standards in our specialty through the Residency Review Committee process. It does not mean that we are requesting credentialing of obstetric anesthesiologists – although as part of this process we will need to also consider the option of credentialing in about 10 years.

There are two documents that we are asking for you to review and make comment upon. The first is the "Recommendation for Accreditation of Obstetric Anesthesiology by the ACGME” the second is the “Program Requirements for Training in Obstetric Anesthesiology” that programs will need to adhere to. The case minimums in the Program Requirements where derived from a survey of obstetric anesthesiology training programs. We need your help and input to make this a success.
